Apple tree Glasses could give this killer upgrade to your iPhone

Apple is rumored to be planning an VR/AR headset next year, earlier pushing on with the so-called Apple Spectacles later on that. Now, an heady new patent application suggests that the company could use its potentially upcoming eyewear to cement its reputation for putting user privacy front and eye.

First spotted by Evidently Apple, much of the patent awarding is dedicated to describing how Face ID profiles could be prepare to adjust for degrees of visual impairment, simply the almost interesting section refers to how a screen could adapt to someone wearing "privacy eyewear."

"In some embodiments, a user may collaborate with the scale graphic... to intentionally blur the graphical output presented on the brandish," the patent reads. "For example, if a user desires privacy or does not want a nearby person to view what is presented on the display... the user may interact with the scale graphic... to make the graphical output illegible."

"Wearing 'privacy eyewear'," it continues, "may counteract the intentional mistiness."

In other words, the screen would announced blurred to anyone looking at it, except the person wearing the linked eyewear. That means everyone trying to read emails over your shoulder on the subway will exist left sorely disappointed, and you tin carry on working in peace, provided you're wearing your "privacy eyewear."

As you lot would expect, the patent awarding makes no mention of specific hardware, though the diagram higher up shows something that looks an atrocious lot like an iPhone to us. That said, there'southward no reason why something similar this couldn't equally apply to a MacBook or iPad as long as it has suitable front end-facing camera technology in place.

Apple Glasses as well aren't named, which is doubly unsurprising, given they're merely a strongly rumored product, rather than something Apple has mentioned. Simply it certainly would announced to exist a sensible lucifer, and would necktie in with the visitor'south continued push button to be associated with user privacy.

If right, it does mean that this theoretical characteristic is still some way off, however. While Apple's first AR headset may arrive next year according to some reports, Apple Glasses are further off, with those in the know suggesting 2023 at the absolute earliest and possibly later.

It's also worth noting that companies apply for patents all the time, and it'due south not necessarily indicative of something that volition announced in a commercially available product: sometimes a patent is simply a patent.
